Four Things

25 January 2006
Wednesday, 6:59 PM

It is a beautiful January morning in Philadelphia. The Pixelworthy office is incandescent, its twentieth story windows unable to find refuge from the sun. Shaded by a pillar, Stan glares at the iMac on his desk.

“Damn Zeldman. Fucking meme shit.”

A few feet away, Rob snickers into his cinnamon roll.

“Keep laughing. You’re getting tagged next.”

“Come now, Stan. I can’t break over three months of editorial silence by participating in some retarded meme.”

“Tough luck.”

How nice to see someone mention the much-misaligned, much-misunderstood Punch Drunk Love.

Every day, I make a point to tell my wife her face is "so pretty, I just want to smash it." Now that's romance.

Punch-Drunk Love is outstanding for so many reasons. It is easily P.T. Anderson’s best; I don’t care what any Magnolia masochists say.

Yes! Punch-Drunk Love is a great movie. Most folks see the name Sandler and move on...but he's great here. And I love the Jon Brion Soundtrack.

Sandler definitely surprised me. I remember not having very high hopes when I first saw the trailer, but then the film knocked me on my ass. I’m glad I saw it in the theater. Everything about the way they crafted Barry’s world—the oppressive fluorescent lights, the jarring sound design, Brion’s score—is best experienced in the theater.

I looked back into the history of this little thing and it looks like this woman http://scrapfairy.blogspot.com/ was way, way back there. I can't figure out where she got it from. Maybe someone else knows.

I can't believe you don't remember how much we enjoyed The Longest Yard. That's easily Sandler's best movie. Remember how that got the team PUMPED!!!?

You personally scored 7 touchdowns that night, Rob...

7. Rob Weychert says…  |  30 January 2006 / 10:55 AM

Yeah, but I usually score at least eleven touchdowns, so...

I think it's fascinating you prefer the UK version of Robot Wars. Why??

9. Rob Weychert says…  |  31 January 2006 / 8:28 PM

I haven’t seen either version of “Robot Wars” in years, so my memory of the differences between the two versions is spotty. As I recall, (former WWF wrestler) Mankind hosted the American version and had the stage presence and personality of a brick, as opposed to (UK host) Craig Charles, who was a real pleasure to watch. I remember the American version being generally less dynamic, with crappy house robots, and fewer and less interesting challenges for the contestants’ robots. Anyway, if it wasn’t that, it was something else. It was another typical American watering-down of an overseas gem.

Man, you like Robot Wars... you just keep getting nerdier and nerier everyday! Remind me to punch you tonight... and then we should watch some ROBOT WARS cause that shit is fantastic. Its not as good as Junkyard Wars... but I guess thats a whole different "blog" (as the kids call them).

Craig Charles' shinning moment was/is as the Takeshi's Castle play by play man.

May I also say that one of the benefits of having a blog that flys well below the radar, is that you don't get meme tagged. If you ever need to hide out Rob, let me know.

Hmm, I never saw Takeshi’s Castle. I think my introduction to Craig Charles was Red Dwarf.
